Question
  1. An unlimited amount of bromine reacts with 19.3 grams of 4-iodo-5-isopropyl-2-nonene. How many grams of organic compound product can be made?

Expert Solution
Step 1

When 4-iodo-5-isopropyl-2-nonene reacts with excess of bromine, 2,3-dibromo-4-iodo-5-isopropyl nonane is formed as a product. This is an example of electrophilic addition reaction.  The molecular formula of 4-iodo-5-isopropyl-2-nonene can be written as C12H23I and the molecular formula of 2,3-dibromo-4-iodo-5-isopropyl nonane can be written as C12H23IBr2. The molar mass of the former is equal to 294 g/mol and the molar mass of the latter is equal to 454 g/mol.
