There are 4 forces, the push P, weight mg, a normal force N, and a frictional force Ff. The direction of the friction force depends on how much P is pushing on the block.

For the case in which P is minimum for stability and in that position the friction force is holding the block up and goes up to the right. In the other case, for which P to be maximum, the friction force is keeping from the sliding up the slope and is going down to left.
