Expert Solution
Step 1

The IR spectrum is used for the confirmation or detection of functional groups present in the molecule. The functional groups are detected with the help of the absorption of the IR radiation by the different types of bond due to which they vibrates and rise a peak or band. The major functional groups of the molecule give peaks or band greater than 1500 cm-1

Bond type                          wavenumber

  O-H                                       3600 - 3300 cm-1

  C-H (alkyl)                          3000 - 2800 cm-1

  C-H (alkyne)                        approx at 3300 cm-1

  C-H (aldehyde)                  pair of weak band at                                                      2860 - 2700 cm-1

  C=O                                    1740 - 1680 cm-1

  C=C                                   1660 - 1600 cm-1

  Alkyne (carbon triple bond )         2150 cm-1
