In response to high rates of obesity among residents living in low-income communities in Oklahoma, the state health department discovers that a small proportion of people living in low-income communities regularly report eating fresh fruits and vegetables. The state health department decides to work with the community to address the low consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables among residents. In their community organizing efforts, the health department staff conducts various activities within the low-income neighborhoods to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The health department's activities are listed below. Match one of the six key constructs from community organizing that best aligns with each activity listed below. Each construct may only be used once. Activity 1: The health department partners with a communit v [ Choose] organization to hold focus groups with community members Empowerment to discuss why the community members believe they do not Issue selection eat enough fruits and vegetables. Relevance Activity 2: The health department and community members Participation Critical consciousness discuss the social, economic, and political reasons that may contribute to low consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables Capacity building in these communities. Activity 3: Findings from the focus groups show that the [ Choose ] residents would buy healthier foods at the supermarket if they could get a ride home. The community members and health department staff agree that addressing transportation to the supermarket is the most important and changeable issue in the community. Activity 4: The health department creates a community [ Choose ) coalition composed of community members. The health department and community coalition work together to develop the health promotion program, implement the program, and evaluate the effectiveness of the program. Activity 5: The health department and community coalition [ Choose ] names a prominent leader in the community as head of the community coalition. This effort helps to develop leadership skills among community members and increases power within the community. Activity 6: The health department and community coalition [Choose ] host monthly town hall meetings open to all community residents to update the community on the progress of their program. In the town hall meetings, residents are also offered an opportunity to provide input and suggestions to improve the program.
