Question

Most Mutations that Affect Gene
Expression Reduce Gene Function WHy?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Gene contains the sequence of the amino acids which is transcribed into mRNA and translated into protein. Protein is responsible for expression of the gene.

Step 2

Now, mutation occurs in the gene. As a result, the sequence of the protein which is encoded by the gene may alter.

So, after translation, a non-functional protein is produced.

As the protein is responsible for expression of the gene but the non-functional protein can't function efficiently.
