WHY do you think that too much of a focus on extrinsic, monetary rewards can be problematic, and fail to keep people motivated over an extended period of time?
Step by step
Solved in 2 steps
- IN REGARD TO YOUR EMPLOYEES’ MOTIVATION, WOULD YOU SAY IT REFLECTS A MORE SELF-MOTIVATED AND SELF-ENGAGING OUTLOOK, OR IS THERE A CONSTANT NEED FOR SUPERVISION AND EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION STEMS FROM REWARDS (PAY, PROMOTIONS, PRAISE)? PROVIDE EXAMPLES OF HOW SO?Now that you have assessed your motivation, were you surprised? Was it accurate? Explain your motivational tendencies by referring to ERG theory. In other words, use ERG theory to help you explain what motivates you. Most of us have to work for a living, and a job is a central part of our lives. So why do managers have to worry so much about employee motivation issues? Can an individual be too motivated?
- Daniel Pink is an author and speaker who gave a TED Talk titled “The Puzzle of Motivation” 1(Pink, 2009). In his talk, he argues that traditional rewards like money can improve performance for simple tasks, but can reduce performance for creative tasks. He suggests that people need autonomy, mastery, and purpose to be engaged and motivated in their work. He cites scientific studies and experiments to support his claim 1 (Pink, 2009). what would be a real life scenario where motivation was important? Describe how you have personally been impacted by either a lack of autonomy, mastery and purpose or have had an adequate amount of autonomy, master and purpose.Motivation is what drives people to behave in certain ways. People are not always aware of what motivates them. One definite tenet of motivation is that people do whatever is best for them. With this in mind, answer the following questions. Q. In your own words, explain the motivation process. What intrinsic reward do you experience in your role as an employee? Extrinsic reward? Are intrinsic or extrinsic reward generally more important motivated for you?
- It is vitally important to managers to value the tool of motivation and to use motivation in a way that has integrity and authenticity. You are to take Herzberg’s theory of motivation and apply that his theory to your own organization (any organization for which you have worked in the past up to the present) and frame up a number of suggestions that you would offer to your director of HR to improve organizational performance using Herzberg’s theory.A motivation theory that assumes that people get motivated when their need at one level is not satisfied, and not motivated anymore when that level of need is substantially satisfied? Most of us must work for life, and a career is a key aspect of our lives. But why do bosses have to be so concerned with the problems of employee motivation? Can a person be too motivated?
- How would you explain the understanding of human motivation? What could be a plan used to improve motivation for future academic/work activities? What is motivation, and why is it important for managers to understand how motivation works? What do managers need to motivate people to do?Pay well, pay fairly, and then do everything you can to get the money off people’s minds,’ one of the managers commented. Analyse this statement considering various concepts and theories associated with motivation.
