Explanation of Solution

The mice that live in the sand dunes, nest and burrow in the dunes. They prefer the slopes that are covered with sand. They generally have light tan fur that blends with its surrounding. This allows the mice to survive and hide from the predators.

The light color of the fur allows them to blend into the color of sand this makes harder for the predators to detect them. If the color of the fur is dark, then they have high chances to get detected by the predators and this decreases the chance of their survival.

The hypothesis can be tested by exposing the selected mice with dark fur color and few mice with the light fur color to the predators using a variety of backgrounds. If the predator often attacks the mice that are not blended with the surrounding, then this means the hypothesis is correct.

Conclusion

The light coloration of the mice fur enables them to blend into their surroundings. This allows them to hide from the predators.
