The consequences for the mother, as a result of bleeding at the site of maternal–placental separation.

Introduction:

Abruptio placentae or the placental abruption is the medical term for the separation of the placenta before the childbirth. The placenta, in such a case, separates from the uterus early. Commonly, the placental abruption occurs around the 25th week of gestation. The fetus as well as the mother gets into life-threatening conditions as a consequence of placental abruption.

Explanation

The cause of placental abruption is still unknown. There are certain factors that might act as risk factors, such as the use of cocaine, previous cesarean section, prior abruption, pre-eclampsia, and smoking. It is diagnosed using ultrasound.
