The thickness of the reinforced concrete slab is 4in..

Show the unit conversion of the thickness as follows:

t=4in.×1ft12in.t=412ft

The area of the steel girder is Asg=42.9in.2.

Show the unit conversion of the area of the steel girder as follows:

Asg=42.9in.2×1122in.2ft2=0.29791ft2

The area of the steel floor is Asf=16.2in.2.

Show the unit conversion of the area of the steel girder as follows:

Asf=16.2in.2×1122in.2ft2=0.1125ft2

Calculation:

Refer Table 2.1: Unit Weight of the Construction Materials.

The unit weight of the structural steel is γs=490lb/ft3.

The unit weight of the reinforced concrete is γc=150lb/ft3.

Show the slab as shown in Figure 1.

Calculate the dead load on the steel girder as follows:

Deadload on the steel girder=Unit weight of the steel×ASg=490×0.2979146lb/ft
