To review:
Whether the cultural view held by Juan’s family is collectivistic or individualistic.
Explanation of Solution
Culture is divided into two subgroups, namely, individualistic and collectivistic. In individualistic culture, the emphasis is on personal goals, achievements or wants instead of group interests. The collectivist culture values the group over an individual as the wellbeing of the group and the interest of the group is always placed above individual interest. In this culture, group’s cohesiveness is emphasized and the performance of the group serves as the measure for social failure and social success.
Thus, the cultural worldviewheld by Juan’s family can be best described as collectivistic because Juan’s family did not let him do even those chores that are easy for him to perform by himself. They preferred letting him use a bottle even though he was able to drink from a cup. They would dress him up neatly and would even bring him toys themselves instead of letting him open the toy box himself.
