Introduction:

Gametogenesis is a process by which haploid gametes are formed. The sperm and ovum are the male and female gametes, respectively, formed with the help of processes called spermatogenesis and oogenesis, respectively. The haploid gametes are formed from diploid germ cells. Spermatogenesis occurs in the seminiferous tubules of the testis and oogenesis occurs in the outermost layer of the ovaries.

Explanation

The four sperms are produced for each primary spermatocyte and only one ovum is formed from each oocyte. The count of sperms is more as compared to the ovum. The spermatogonia form primary spermatocyte by meiosis. The meiosis of primary spermatocyte results in four sperms. There is an unequal division of cells in oogenesis and two polar bodies and one ovum; later the polar bodies deform.
