Summary Introduction

Introduction

A conditioned stimulus is something that we do not react to automatically. We need to be taught or learn how to react to this stimulus. The stimulus is neutral and must be matched up with something else to bring about a reaction from us. In Pavlov's famous experiment, the bell is the conditioned response. A bell does not normally make a dog drool. It is neutral.
