Explanation of Solution

Goudsmit manufactures eddy current separators since 2009. It is being used worldwide. The critical parameters that have been taken to consideration in applying the eddy current separators are incineration slag, shredder residues, glass, wood, construction and demolition waste, metals, electronic scrap, plastics, household waste, rejects and moulding sand.

The components of eddy current separators are as follows:

  1. Magnetic induction motor.
  2. Conveyor belt.
  3. Magnetic poles.

Eddy current separator combines the use of a magnetic rotor with alternating poles that consists of north and south poles components. As the metals get passes through the motor, the eddy current is produced in the electrical conductor in which it gets appears on the required surface of the table. The rotation speed results in a rapidly fluctuating changing magnetic field.

In case the several magnets which generate electrical field are underneath the table, it conducts electricity when the particles slide down the table, and they are pushed in a direction perpendicular to its given path.

Finally, it is necessary to achieve the removal of waste from the metals, and the metals get separated. The mixed materials are fed into a non-magnetic belt, and it gets to travel over the induction motor on the underside of the belt. Induction motors eject the contents to be removed against a wall and into extract area and metals for recovery is on the top side of the belt. The rejected materials are not affected by the eddy current.
