Introduction:

In the United States, too little body fat is not a widespread problem. In contrast, despite a national preoccupation with body image and weight loss, obesity remains at epidemic proportions. In 1960, about 13 percent of U.S. adults were obese. Today, an estimated 69 percent of the adults in the United States are overweight or obese.
