BIOCHEMICAL CONNECTIONS What is the purpose of the Human Genome Project? Why do researchers want to know the details of the human genome?

Interpretation Introduction

The purpose of the Human Genome Project is to be explained and the reasons behind knowing the details of the human genome have to be discussed.

Concept Introduction:

The Human Genome Project was an international scientific research project and its goal was to sequence the entire human genome sequence that makes up the human DNA.

It was formally launched in 1990 and was completed in 2003. The six countries that were involved in the project are the United States (U.S.), the United Kingdom (U.K.), Japan, France, Germany, and China.

The purpose of the Human Genome Project was to map all the nucleotides that are present in the human haploid reference genome. This project involved the sequencing of a small number of individuals and then combining all to get the final and complete sequence of each chromosome. The Human Genome Project is mosaic in nature and does not include the genome sequences of a single individual.

Human genome sequencing was done because the genome sequence would help in the basic researches and the medical researches, like in understanding the genetic diseases and treating them...
