Bartleby Write allows both free and premium users to change basic default settings from the Preferences menu shown below:

Bartleby Write Preferences Menu

The Preferences menu allows you to change the default language and citation format based on your requirement.

Options Available on the Preferences Menu

To access this menu, click on Tools in the toolbar above your draft. Then, click on Preferences to open a new window with the Preferences menu.

Here, you are provided with options to change the following default settings:

1. Default Language

Bartleby Write gives users the option to choose between 4 default languages – English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Selecting one of these languages displays all the prompts in that language. However, clicking on the info icon next to Default Language opens a popup with the message “Note this setting only controls the prompts, analysis is only available for English-language papers.” Thus, uploading documents in Spanish, French, or Portuguese will give users an error in the chosen language conveying that “Only English language papers can be analyzed at this time.”

2. Default Citation Format

The tool also allows users to choose between 3 citation styles – MLA, APA, and Chicago. Selecting one of these will change the format of the citations generated using the citation tool (below the editor) to that style. Users can also alternatively change the citation format using the dropdown that appears at the top right corner of the citation tool.

Note: Before creating citations for any of your papers using Bartleby Write, remember to verify the preferred citation style with your instructor or university guidelines.
