Journal- 2002 Beltway Sniper
John Muhammad & Lee Boyd Malvo also known as the D.C. Beltway Sniper went on a shooting spree in and around Washington D.C. lasting almost 3 weeks killing 10 and injuring 3 (Philofsky, n.d.). Despite the men being charged with terrorism due to the penal code of Virginia which allowed prosecutors to not only charge both men with murder, weapons charges but also charge both men with committing and abetting acts of terrorism (Simms & Showers, n.d.) The men despite causing terror and panic during the rampage that these two men went on were not for political, social or ideology gain so it can not be classified as terrorism but a simple violent crime defined as a mass shooting.
The sniper attacks started on October 2, 2002 and ended October 23, 2002 after the men were spotted at a rest stop sleeping in their vehicle (Philofsky, n.d.). The attacks varied on time of day as well as location, while there were days in between shootings, the victims varied from age, gender as well as race and ethnicity (Horsley, 2014). This made it so those law enforcement agencies that were investigating these shootings had difficulty determining who the next targets could be as well as the location of the targets (Horsley, 2014). With these shootings lasting for almost three weeks and the public not knowing who would be targeted, this caused a lot of fear and panic in the public (Philofsky, n.d.).
Prior to the deadly shootings in the D.C. area in February Malvo shot and killed a man in Tacoma, Washington and then 7 months later Malvo shot and robbed a man for his cash and computer, the man survived the shooting (Washington Post, 2022). At the beginning of the October 2002 D.C. shootings the men left a tarot card with a note but with no specific demands while towards the end of the rampage the men left a note demanding money with a fake phone number (Washington Post, 2022). There were 30 different law enforcement agencies
3
investigating these shootings, on October 23, 2002 the police were able to release a description of the car Mohammad and Malvo were in and law enforcement were able to arrest them after a tip came in that they were asleep at a rest stop (Washington Post, 2022).

Case 6-5 Vertical Pharmaceuticals Inc. et al. v. Deloitte & Touche LLP1
On December 13, 2012, Vertical Pharmaceuticals Inc. and an affiliated company sued Deloitte & Touche LLP in New Jersey state court for alleged accountant malpractice, claiming the firm’s false accusations of fraudulent conduct scrapped a public company’s plans to acquire Vertical for more than $50 million.
Vertical is a privately owned company that sells niche prescription drugs geared toward women’s health and pain management. Trigen Laboratories (TLI) sells and markets generic drugs. Deloitte was auditing the 2011 financial statements of Vertical and TLI, which are owned by the same three partners, when it abruptly suspended that review because of supposedly troubling items that two whistleblowers brought to the firm’s attention, according to the complaint, which was filed November 21 in Morris County Superior Court.
Deloitte insisted that Vertical hire independent counsel and conduct an internal…
