tences, and correctly in order to be considered for full credit

If a math formula is required to arrive at an answer, work must be shown otherwise, no credit will

Questions
1.
What constitutes personal protective equipment? When should personal protective
equipment be worn? Why is personal protective equipment important? (5 points)
Personal protective equipment includes Safety Goggles/ Glasses, Gloves, and Lab coat/Apron
.
They should be worn the whole time while doing lab experiments and in the lab
.
Personal protective equipment is very important to protect people from safety hazards

2.
As part of the lab safety procedure and before beginning an experiment, what must you
do in order to be prepared to conduct the steps of the experiment? (5 points)
Read each procedure completely before starting. You should be family with the actions required
every step of the way.
Prepare a workplace by clearing the area of all clutter, food, and other items not directly related
to the laboratory exercise.
Read the labels on all chemicals and note their stay rating, if you have any questions to
concerns about chemicals, refer to the DS available at the eScience Lab website.
Consult your physician if you are pregnant allergic to chemicals, or have other medical
conditions that may require additional protective measures.
Remove all loose clothing and always closed-toe shoes; pull back and secure long hair, remove
all jewelry; wear safety glasses at all times, wearing soft contact lenses while conducting
laboratory exercises is discouraged as they can absorb potentially harmful chemicals. When
handling chemicals, always wear the protective glasses, gloves, and apron provided in your
safety kit.

Why are there increasing levels of biological containment procedures? What level of
biological containment will be necessary to complete the experiments in this manual?

a.The biosafety level describes the minimum required containment measures that should be used
to ensure safety when working with microorganisms. The BSL
is determined by the
characteristics of the microorganism being studied and includes the level of knowledge of the
