Hand Washing Techniques Student Name Jessica Gonzalez Date February 13, 2024 Data Activity 1 Data Table 1 Treatment group Number of “contaminated” spots counted No wash 25 Quick wash 12 Good wash 3 1. What was the main difference you saw between your routine hand- washing technique and the Good wash from the manual? The main difference I saw between my routine hand-washing technique and the good wash from the manual was that the thoroughness and duration of each step were longer than my usual routine. The good wash was more detailed in regards to washing each individual finger with a longer duration, and comparing it to my routine, it isn’t as detailed. 2. Which part of your hands did you find the most difficult to clean? The part of my hands that I found most difficult to clean was in between each of my fingers because it can be a little challenging to make sure that I was cleaning in between each finger correctly and effectively. This is
1 especially challenging knowing that this area tends to trap dirt and microbes in between. 3. When examining your lab coat or lab apron after the Quick wash, you probably saw little spots of “contamination”. How can you explain that? After the quick wash, while I was examining my lab apron, the little spots of “contamination” could have been due to incomplete removal of the microbes during the hand washing process. Although the hand-washing procedure might have felt thorough, there could have been a possibility that the technique or duration was not sufficient to completely eliminate all the contaminants. © 2018 Carolina Biological Supply Company
