Benchmark Assignment on Ethical Behavior of Business Students – Bo Diddly Tech Braelyn Ayala Colangelo College of Business, Grand Canyon University BUS-352: Business Statistics Larry Musolino November 26, 2023 1
Benchmark Assignment on Ethical Behavior of Business Students – Bo Diddly Tech Defining the Problem During the global recession from 2008 to 2009, the dean at Bo Diddley Tech became concerned for the rise in cheating for business students. At this time, a study was done to test any unethical behavior at Bo Diddley Tech for students who may or may not be cheating. The purpose of this managerial report is to analyze the data of students, both athletes and non- athletes, who have admitted to cheating on their work. To complete this report, a significant sample size of 100 students was taken to provide the most accurate results. By the end of this study, suggestions could be made to help mitigate the issue of cheating for future students. Collecting the Data Collecting the data consisted of obtaining a report of 1440 athlete and non-athlete students at Bo Diddley Tech. After randomizing the data, a sample size of 100 students was taken. This data consisted of athletes who cheated, athletes who did not cheat, non-athletes who cheated, and non-athletes who did not cheat. The data set also considered business students and non-business students since the article from Chronicle of Higher Education mentioned 56% of business students cheat while 47% of non-business students cheat. Organizing the Data When organizing this data, a pivot table was created to easily see the relationships between all variables. This pivot table is able to show the exact number of students to cheated or did not cheat and which category they belong in such as a business student is also an athlete, a non-business student who is also an athlete, a business student who is not an athlete, and a non- business student who is also not an athlete. The grand total of each category is also shown which allows for visualizing the difference in variables. 2

In the figure below, data can be shown representing business athlete and non-athlete students as well as non-business athlete and non-athlete students who have and have not cheated. The blue bar represents the students who did not cheat, and the orange bar represents students who have cheated. The bar allows for the visualization of business students cheating more than non- business students. Non-business students still cheat, however the bar graph shows a drastic difference in those who cheat compared to those who do not. Bar graphs are essential in analyzing data due to the simplicity in understanding how much more one category may be in 3
