Leadership Strategies for HR Janaya Cherry BUS 302: MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS Dr. Valery Shumate November 1, 2023
Business Strategy (In at least one paragraph, define business strategy and why it is important.) Business strategy refers to a comprehensive and purposeful plan that outlines an organization's goals, actions, and decisions to achieve a competitive advantage and long-term success. It involves making choices about where to compete, how to differentiate from competitors, and how to allocate resources effectively. Business strategy is crucial as it provides a clear direction for an organization, aligns its efforts towards common objectives, helps in adapting to changing market dynamics, guides resource allocation to areas of highest impact, and enables efficient decision-making by creating a framework for prioritization and resource management, ultimately leading to sustainable growth and a stronger market position. Importance of HRM (In at least one paragraph, explain why the human resource management function is important to both employee and labor relations.) The human resource management (HRM) function holds immense significance for both employee and labor relations within an organization. For employees, HRM ensures fair treatment, development opportunities, and a positive work environment, fostering job satisfaction and motivation. Effective HR practices, such as transparent communication, skill development, and performance evaluation, contribute to employees' growth, job engagement, and overall well-being. In terms of labor relations, HRM plays a pivotal role in managing interactions between employees and the organization, fostering a collaborative atmosphere. HR professionals oversee grievance handling, negotiate labor contracts, and mediate disputes, contributing to a harmonious workplace. By upholding employee rights, addressing concerns, and ensuring compliance with labor laws, HRM contributes to a balanced and productive relationship between employees and the organization, enhancing organizational performance and employee morale. HR Leadership Strategies (In at least two paragraphs, explain one leadership strategy that human resources will use for each of the following: conflict management, communication improvement, employee motivation and behavior improvement. Provide your rationale for each choice.) 2
Human resources will employ HRM leadership strategy for conflict management leadership. I wouldn't overlook a disagreement. I would be prepared and willing to resolve any ongoing conflict. If there is a disagreement brewing among the members of my team, I would have to be alert and aware of it. It needs to be addressed right away so that we can start to find a solution for what is happening amongst each team member. Effective communication boosts productivity, which benefits both the business and its employees. We'll hold meetings once a week to check in on any employees that have conflicts with one another and make sure they are resolved. This is one approach I'd use for communication improvement. To encourage my staff, I give them rewards for completing their task on time and turning it in on time. To determine how the team has performed, whether that quarter's performance has increased or decreased, and whether discipline is necessary, I would use behavioral performance updated at the end of each month. If everything is in order, I would thank them for their effort and let them know that it wasn't in vain. I would also let them know how highly they are valued. Leadership Strategy Effectiveness (Discuss how you plan to measure the effectiveness of the leadership strategies you chose above.) To ensure the implementation of these measures, I would initiate a pre-work meeting, creating a platform for open communication. During this session, I would encourage a familial atmosphere by fostering an environment where team members feel comfortable engaging with me and their colleagues. I would maintain a balance between self-assuredness and humility, prioritizing a confident yet approachable demeanor. Through consistent eye contact and verbal cues, I would reaffirm my attentive presence and commitment to their concerns. Skills for Leading Change (In one paragraph, describe the critical skills for leading change and why they are important.) Effective communication, strategic thinking, and adaptability are vital leadership traits. To effectively address concerns, express the change's goal and justification, and maintain transparency throughout the process, effective communication is essential. Leaders that use strategic thinking are better able to recognize potential problems, create well-informed strategies, and connect the change with overall company objectives. The ability to adapt enables leaders to overcome unexpected challenges, modify plans of action in response to changing conditions, and serve as an example for their staff. These abilities are crucial because they allow leaders to foster a culture of trust, lead their teams through times of uncertainty, and foster a sense of community among staff members. 3
