Should women be required to wear cosmetics to work?
In 2000, a lawsuit tested company policies requiring women to wear makeup to work. When a twenty-year employee of Harrah’s casino in Reno was fired for refusing to follow their “Personal
Best” policy that specified women wear lip color, face powder, blush and mascara, she filed a discrimination lawsuit. She alleged that the policy was demeaning and discriminatory in that men were not required nor allowed to wear makeup. However, much to the chagrin of many women’s rights activists, the court upheld Harrah’s requirement for females to wear makeup. Therefore, the court also ruled that Harrah’s was justified in their firing of the employee for refusing to follow the company policy. Members of the hotel industry association in California hailed the ruling because it gave an employer the right to have grooming standards, which they feel are important in-service industries (Colb, 2001; Osterman, 2005).

This article, “Identifying Fair Trade in Consumption Choice,” published in the Journal of Strategic Marketing in December of 2006, provides a detailed look at research regarding fair trade, ethical consumption, and other ethical consumer concerns. It offers a unique perspective in that it attempts to cover research concerning fair trade alongside that of other issues such as the aforementioned, as well as green consumption and voluntary simplicity, in an attempt to show how these issues connect with each other and contribute to the consumer decision-making process.
One of the first points the article mentions is the significant market growth for fair trade products in recent years and the rise in consumer concerns about the ethics behind products and companies they buy from, including the boycott of certain companies due to ethical concerns becoming more common. I think this point has aged significantly well…

Women sue Apple, claim AirTags helped exes stalk them
Apple has been sued by two women who said its AirTag devices have made it easier for former partners and other stalkers to track down victims.
Starting at $29 US ($39 Cdn), AirTags are 3.2 centimetres in diameter and intended to be slipped into or attached to keys, wallets, backpacks and other items so people can find those items when they are lost.
But privacy experts and law enforcement have said some people use AirTags for criminal or malicious purposes.
In the proposed class action filed on Monday in San Francisco federal court, the women said Apple has been unable to protect people from unwanted tracking through AirTag since launching what it called the "stalker-proof" device in April 2021.
The plaintiffs called AirTag "the weapon of choice of stalkers and abusers." Their lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for U.S. owners of iOS or Android-based devices who were tracked by AirTag or are "at risk" of being stalked because of…
