Question 1
(a) In light of the information provided in the article by James Tapper, employees considering quiet quitting are likely to place a significant emphasis on specific work values. Within Table 4-
1, the values under the "Work Itself" category, particularly the utilization of ability, freedom and independence, intellectual stimulation, and creative expression, appear to be crucial for employees in general. The article suggests that individuals engaged in quiet quitting are avoiding
the above-and-beyond efforts and the hustle culture mentality, indicating a desire for work that allows them to utilize their abilities while maintaining a sense of freedom and independence (Tapper, 2022). The importance of intellectual stimulation and creative expression is also displayed by the avoidance of the traditional extra responsibilities associated with the workplace.
Overall, these values align with a desire for meaningful and fulfilling work experiences.
(b) The specific job values contributing to quiet quitting, as outlined in the article by James Tapper (2022), involve aspects of the work itself, coworker relations, and the work environment. Employees considering quiet quitting may perceive a lack of freedom and independence, intellectual stimulation, and creative expression in their current roles. Dissatisfaction with coworkers, whether they are not enjoyable or not responsible, can also lead to disengagement and quiet quitting (Tapper, 2022). Additionally, issues with the work environment, such as discomfort or a perceived lack of safety, may be factors contributing to the decision to quit quietly (Tapper, 2022).
(c)
The great resignation, as discussed by Bryan Robinson, is influenced by different job values. Employees regret leaving their jobs during the great resignation when they face challenges such as quitting without a new job lined up, suggesting concerns related to job security and a secure salary, as mentioned in Table 4-1. The regret is also tied to missing relationships with coworkers,
2
indicating the importance of positive coworker relations in overall job satisfaction, as emphasized in the articles (Robinson, 2022). Furthermore, unmet expectations in the new job and
issues with culture and management in the new company highlight a misalignment with intrinsic work values and a positive work environment (Robinson, 2022). Employees who regret leaving their jobs during the Great Resignation often cite several reasons. The most prevalent cause, mentioned by 40% of respondents, is quitting without a new job lined up, showcasing the importance of job security and a secure salary (Robinson, 2022). This aligns with concerns about the job market's challenges, indicating that individuals regret the decision when faced with unexpected difficulties. Additionally, 22% express regret because they miss the relationships with coworkers, emphasizing the significance of positive coworker relations in overall job satisfaction (Robinson, 2022). Other reasons for regret, such as unmet expectations in
the new job and issues with culture and management in the new company, point to a misalignment with the intrinsic values associated with the work itself and a positive work environment (Robinson, 2022). This suggests that individuals regret leaving when their new roles do not fulfill their expectations or lack the positive aspects they enjoyed in their previous positions.
Question 2
(a) Stress Level and Work Stressors:
After reading the article The Great Resignation or The Great Transition by the Cleveland Clinic (2022), my stress level is low. The article further explored the concept of "quiet quitting," a trend where individuals are shifting their approach to work to protect against burnout (Cleveland Clinic, 2022). In my case, stressors predominantly stem from the unrealistic expectations that I put on myself. However, my job provides me with a
3
great work-life balance and an overall low stress and supportive environment. I would not consider leaving my job due to current stressors. (b) The concept of "quiet quitting" introduces a unique approach to coping with workplace stress
and burnout, with its potential benefits for mental health gaining attention (England, 2022). The rising popularity of this trend, especially among the younger workforce on platforms like TikTok, signals a shift in attitudes toward work and a growing recognition of the importance of setting boundaries (England, 2022).
Quiet quitting involves individuals rejecting the pervasive hustle culture and instead choosing to prioritize their well-being by doing the minimum required to fulfill job obligations without letting work seep into other aspects of their lives (England, 2022). The signs of quiet quitting, such as saying no to tasks outside the job description, not responding to work-related messages outside of work hours, and leaving work on time, suggest a deliberate effort to reclaim personal time and mental space (England, 2022). I certainly agree that there is a great potential benefit from quiet quitting. I think that quiet quitting involves setting boundaries that should have already been in place. The article notes that quiet quitting might be a response to burnout and stress, offering a strategy for individuals to protect themselves from the adverse effects of overwork (England, 2022). The rejection of the neoliberal 'hustle' culture, which often prioritizes materialism over human-
centered values, aligns with the growing emphasis on well-being and mental health (England, 2022). As individuals seek a better work-life balance, quiet quitting becomes a conscious effort to uphold mental and spiritual health by reconnecting with nature, spending time with loved ones, and pursuing activities that bring joy and fulfillment (England, 2022). By setting boundaries and resisting the constant pressure to overachieve, individuals engaging in quiet

Workplace bullying and harassment have become challenging issues in many organizations and industries. Such misbehavior often involves intentionally harming others psychologically and/or emotionally on the job, as well as the development of a hostile work environment. While bullying and harassment can occur independently of each other, thus representing different issues, growing evidence suggests that these acts are interrelated, functioning together based on a prevailing negative corporate culture. Unfortunately, such misdeeds can make the workplace even worse because of the way they can encourage poor employee morale, negative work attitudes, and low job performance.Being one of the largest investment companies with a workforce of over 40,000 employees, Fidelity has faced many of these challenges, likely based on the sheer number of individuals who work there. The company terminated several successful money managers because of alleged sexual harassment and workplace bullying.…
