Module 6: Develop “Look, Think, Act” Steps in the AR Process Aspen University  RSH916 Problem-Based Research in Action December 04, 2023  INTRODUCTION:
In research, a systematic approach to investigating and inquiring about issues or problems is taken. The purpose of action research is to solve problems that are the subject of the investigation by using solution-oriented investigations. An action research routine consists of regular cycles of investigation that are based on a look-think-act process. The first step in action research is planning . In this step I need to identify problems or issues that may be occurring within an organizational environment. In planning a research process the purpose of planning any activity is to establish an atmosphere that captures a positive energy enthusiasm from all participating stakeholders. The participatory process of action research involves all key stakeholders and is an integral part of the participatory process that is being conducted. This collaborative process involves participants and/or colleagues working together to come up with solutions to problems they face daily as part of this process. 1. Identifying the problem or issue Redefining the problematic issue within the organization has been reidentified in order to find a solution that can potentially make changes within the organizational environment. The problem within the organization is the work overload with extra staffing duties. These working conditions has caused an interference with teachers becoming burnout. 2. Data collection and organizing Changing the data collection, I would do surveys and questionnaires to obtain my data. This would give me a better understanding of the teacher’s working conditions and how it has potentially impacted their role as a teacher and their mental and physical capacity of being burnt out. 3. Understanding and interpreting data analysis
The collected data must be analyzed to provide valuable insights that can be used to make decisions and solve problems. Having insights can be used to develop strategies, identify trends, and create predictions. 4. Action This step is where action takes place to design or plan strategies that can be implemented. During this step there should flexibility to changes that so that adjustments can be made when needed throughout the study or observation. This action would remain the same because 5. Reflection and Evaluation Reflections and evaluations must be done during this phase. This is because it allows those working on the project to meet regularly to reflect and evaluate. In these meetings, potential problems or issues can be discussed, in order to determine if the identified areas are effective and which need to be improved. Action research represents a way of attaining specific goals that will lead to the improvement of professional practice. This is done by involving the use of in-depth learning and problem-solving processes to achieve these goals. Therefore, taking account of the issues that are taking place within the school building, these areas can be improved through the process of action research. Several studies conducted recently using the Job Demand-Resources theoretical model to provide some insight into why teachers and school staff experience burnout (Camacho, Hoover & Rosete, 2021). Studies have shown that teaching conditions are difficult and stressful for teachers and school staff as a result of the heavy workloads, the lack of resources, and the tight deadlines involved in teaching. The combination of these factors is a contributing factor to the feeling of overwhelmed and burnt out that teachers and staff experience as a result of feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. Utilizing Action Research within the organization can allow stakeholders to interpret, evaluate, and collaborate to find possible solutions (Oosthuizen, 2014). In addition, stakeholders can implement strategies and techniques to support teachers and school
staff within the building. A broader understanding of how to implement these strategies in areas that would be most effective will be gained from the outcome. Look Stage As part of the look stage phase, I would identify a problem or issue that I am trying to address within the environment of the school within which I am working. A focus area or problem in this project is the burnout of teachers and school staff as a result of extra duties and roles that have resulted in a rise in the number of students who need supervision and monitoring. Considering this, I would then proceed to gather data related to the subject matter in order to gain a better understanding of how school staff are required to perform supervision and monitoring duties outside of their normal duties within the school environment. I would focus on obtaining my data by conducting interviews, questionnaires, focus groups or surveys as well as literature reviews. The information that would gather for this investigation will allow me to determine the nature of the problem or issues that is being investigated. This information can be derived from information like: interviewee knows the purpose of the study, as well as who they are speaking with. By following these guidelines, the interviewer is able to create and build trust between himself and the interviewee, which enables them to provide more accurate and honest feedback to the interviewer. Interview Questions In some cases, during the interview process, some questions may be tainted by the researcher's perceptions, perspectives, interests, and agendas, which can interfere with the research process. Hypotheses and possible solutions should be formulated and tested with a
