Investigating Chemical Reactions Student Name Shae Thibodeaux Date November 19, 2023
1 Data Activity 1: Synthesis Reaction Data Table 1 Activity Observations and Data Synthesis reaction Initial temperature of steel-wool = 20 C, 5 Minutes = 25 C, 10 minutes =24 C. The steel wool with vinegar appears rusted, orange coloration in comparison to the other one . Decompositi on reaction When the yeast interacted with hydrogen peroxide it made something that looked like foam, making big bubbles and a lot of gas. I predict when putting a glowing and a flaming splint it will bursts into flames. Turns out when I put each of the splints in they simply went out . Single- replacement reaction Initially the magnesium strip made some bubbles, then when I inserted the flaming splint the fire extinguished. Double- replacement reaction The solution bubbled for a minute, but later it stopped and I was able to see some baking soda sitting at the bottom of the cup. The glowing splint and flame turned off. Combustion reaction The test tube that was over the flame looked empty, with burn marks at the bottom of the tube and I think the gas from the baking soda and vinegar turned the flame of the candle off. Precipitation reaction The limewater didn’t seem to have a reaction. Combustion reaction The steel wool doesn’t really catch in fire like I thought it would, the individual wires get hot and turned orange, but nearly immediately went out and appeared burnt after. © 2016 Carolina Biological Supply Company
