A Sign of Respect - Part 1 Unit 1 - Exercise 1c by Thomas K. Holcomb and Anna Mindess, Copyright © 2017 Eye2Eye Productions Name: Please type your response to the questions. Then save and submit as directed by your instructor, if required. Choice Point 1: Good Attitude Question 1 of 2 What was your first answer choice? ____ A ____B __ X __C Explain why you made that choice: I chose C because while correcting someone or helping them invent a new sign for a word, I feel like writing down notes to help them to keep up would not only feel more inclusive but also to avoid any unnecessary confusion or frustration with someone who is deaf. Question 2 of 2 What is your reaction to each of the 3 answers offered in Choice Point 1: Good Attitude? Have you ever done one of these actions? With A, while I agree it definitely would help them learn how to pronounce words better, it would also probably make the person feel in the wrong because they are being told that they are incorrect about the overall pronunciation of a word when they have not been able to hear themselves pronounce things before. However, this can be helpful especially if they are using cochlear implants for the first time and having someone who is hearing and able to pronounce a word correctly may help them learn how to have clearer speech. With B, it is a really ingenuitive way of creating a sort of lingo between two people. However, the problem lies within the new sign actually being used and being spread around to be used until it become a universal sign which can take a long time especially if it were to be written into a curriculum if we were in an educational setting. With C, I found this one to be more helpful because since the person who is of hearing and able to keep up with the meeting is writing notes, it allows them to feel like they can attempt to pitch in with the meeting until the interpreter shows up.
