Report
Rhyne, Brookelynn November 17, 2021 Witnessing Report EVAN 101-001 Part one- What were the circumstances surrounding your conversation with the unbelieving person when you presented the gospel to him/her . While I was home during fall break, I went to breakfast on my birthday with my boyfriend. I saw a young girl sitting alone, and I watched for a while to know that she was alone. She seemed to have a dissatisfied look on her face. I wondered if it was because of the quality of the food or if there was something else in her life that was affecting her. I was afraid to talk to her, but I felt the Spirit leading me to start a conversation with her. I did not once think that I would share the story of Jesus with her, but I knew that I needed to ask how she was doing. I thought about it for about ten minutes, reflecting on Isaiah 6:8. “Also I hear the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” The conviction of the spirit was too loud to ignore. I went over and asked if she minded if I sat with her. I first asked how her day was going, she said that she had just been recently let go from her job. It was worrying her because the holidays were quickly approaching, and she wasn’t sure if she would be able to provide for herself to that point, she wasn’t sure that her money would last until then. She then said, “I am beginning to lose all hope.” At this point in the conversation, I didn’t know where she stood religiously, but I knew that she didn’t know my Jesus, the way I did. He is the hope in hopeless situations, and that is what I knew I needed to share with her. Part Two- What was the reaction (questions/comments/statements) of the unbeliever? I asked if she knew Jesus, and she responded that she had always heard of Him, but never in detail. She explained, “church was never a priority in my family, because it didn’t provide for us. I guess we just weren’t worthy enough, because we are poor.” I began to tell her stories, especially the one found in Matthew 11. When Jesus was responding to the questions of John the Baptist being asked whether or not he was the true messiah. Jesus responded, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me” (Matthew 11:4-6). I began to tell her that the gospel is for everyone, Jesus is a global God, not one of specific groups. As I said the word gospel, I saw a confused look on her face. I asked, “Is everything okay?” She responded, “What is the Gospel?” Then I knew it was the perfect time to share the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. During this, she was very receptive to what I had to say, if she was confused, she wasn’t afraid to ask a question. Part Three- What did you do/say to the person in light of the person’s reaction to your presentation of the Gospel? I said that I hadn’t ever had someone respond that way, so interested, and she said “I want to learn more.” I invited her to join us at church the following day, I gave her an invite card, and offered her a ride if she needed one. Her face lit up. I then asked if I could pray for her, and she was very willing to do that. Afterwards I gave her my phone number, and told her not to hesitate to call if you have questions, and told her of the Bible app she could download and the kinds of resources it offered. As I was walking out, she said “I will see you at church tomorrow.” Thank you Jesus for IMPORTANT: The Witnessing Report is not graded on the quality of the encounter, your performance, or the individual’s reaction. It is simply graded on whether or not you met the requirements of the assignment listed above. The point of this assignment is to create life skills and accountability related to sharing Christ as a natural part of daily life. As Christians, we are all expected to be willing and obedient participants in the Great Commission.
