W12 Application Activity Template: Growth Through Experience Worksheet Name : Kelsey Longmore Overview Think about a time when you failed at something. Here are some examples: scoring low on a test or assignment, becoming angry when you could have used self-control, entertaining bad thoughts, playing or singing music incorrectly, and making a mistake while playing a sport. After failing, you can choose to see your failure in one of two ways. You can see it as a measurement of your value as a person, or you can see it as an opportunity for growth (Ether 12:27). Step 1 Write about your failure and describe at least three ways you can use this failure to grow (and not pronounce judgment on yourself). Complete the table below. Growth through Experience Worksheet Describe your failure. What happened? For a major project, I finished an assignment but missed the submission deadline. Fortunately, my professor was generous and permitted me to use a "mulligan," which provides full credit for an assignment turned in late due to previously planned additional work. Although the work was completed at the beginning of the week, I postponed submission until the end of the week. This exception is only available for a single use. With the use of this, I received full credit. However, without it, I would have scored a 0 which would have had a significant impact on my grade. Write one way you can use this failure to grow This helped me grow in a way that I understand better when to turn it in. Even though an assignment may be due later than what I had gotten done I will make sure I turn it in on time.
Write another way you can use this failure to grow With the lessons learned from this experience, I have implemented a new strategy of starting work on larger projects at the outset of the project deadline. Although this approach may require additional time, it ensures timely submission. Write a third way you can use this failure to grow Lastly, I improved my schedule organization to complete all tasks on time. I developed a system to assist me in completing tasks promptly. How will you avoid seeing failure as a measurement of your value as a person? I can view this as personal growth by recognizing its potential for self-improvement. By regard it as an opportunity for growth and development, I acknowledge my worth as an individual capable of improving. I will endeavor to identify areas in which I can improve and grow, thereby avoiding any sense of personal devaluation. Step 2 Think of someone in your life who could help support you as an online student. This may be someone who has experienced what you are experiencing, or it could be someone you are close to that you trust. It could even be someone from your past that you haven't communicated with in a while. Choose someone other than your instructor to be this support person for you for the next while, or longer. Who could you ask? My mom or sister would be great supporters of me as an online student.
