Hospital Application: Regulatory Agencies Regulatory agencies Regulatory agencies are state and federal regulating entities charged with ensuring that healthcare organizations and providers comply with all current legislation. It is the responsibility of hospital administrators to guarantee that their organization and providers remain compliant. The goal of this paper is to do an analysis of how law, specifically the Patient Protection Act and the Affordable Care Act, affects my hospital, as well as what is required to maintain compliance. A multidisciplinary committee on legislation and compliance can be established by the vice present of human resources to ensure that the company complies with all current and future government regulations. This team, which includes members of the C-suite and department managers from billing and accounting to providers, will be headed by the vice president of human resources. This committee will convene on a court-by-court basis to deliberate on proposed laws and modifications required to ensure compliance. They will also be in charge of informing their division about the latest compliance guidelines and practices. Managing insurance claims, invoices, and payments falls within the purview of the medical billing and coding division. Codes corresponding to certain services are entered by this department to process claims. This department needs to make sure that they are accurately and meticulously entering these codes because the Patient Protection Act and the Affordable Care Act were passed with the goal of enhancing quality. Making mistakes in the processing of bills and insurance claims can cause delays in reimbursement and could result in the loss of federal assistance. To keep themselves current, all coders will need to take continuing education courses on the ICD-10 coding system. 2
