Developing Channels of Communication and Collaboration
Introduction
The Research and Development (R&D) team has created a new product. The team believes the new product will revolutionize the industry and it is our job to effectively communicate with all levels of the corporation about the product so the R&D department will get
the buy-in from the other levels of the corporation. This white paper discusses how to choose and
develop the proper channels of communication and collaboration that benefits all employee needs. For this project to be a success, we need to effectively communicate with upper management so they understand the product and how the company will benefit from it in order for them to approve the necessary funding. The sales and marketing team must understand the product so they can effectively market it. The technical support team must be thoroughly informed about the product to support the customer base. Our Communication Department will need to ensure all employees know and understand the product so they can build excitement for the product launch.
Possible Channels of Communication
Effective communication channels are essential for success in any business, as they ensure that information is transmitted accurately, timely and efficiently (Sorin, 2023, p. 20). When considering possible channels of communication, determine the purpose of the communication, the goal, and the intended audience. The purpose is deciding why you are
communicating. Determining the goal helps provide the appropriate tone and scope. And this case, we are communicating with multiple audiences. There are many different types of communication channels, but memos, letters, and emails are the most common. Other communication channels include reports, websites, presentations, blogs, oral communication, instant message, text message, video conference, and more. Memos, letters, and e-mails can be written for multiple purposes including documentation,
confirmation, procedures, recommendations, feasibility, status, directive, inquiry, and covers. Choosing the right communication channel depends on the nature of the message, the intended audience, and the desired outcome (Sorin, 2023, p. 25). You can use more than one communication channel to achieve success but limit the number of channels used as they can create confusion. PowerPoint presentations can be used to explain the product and how it will impact the company. Product cost, benefits, and strategies to market the product can be included in the presentation. The PowerPoint presentation can be provided as an attachment in an email to inform upper management, tech support, sales, marketing, and any other necessary employee about the upcoming schedule presentation that can be presented either in person or via teleconference. Channel Suggestions
A recorded teleconference led by the Communications Department would be beneficial since International Gadgets (IG) has employees across the world. An email would be an effective
communication channel for a brief overview on the product and informing employees about the upcoming presentation. The email must be professional and courteous. Providing an attached PowerPoint presentation for employees to review and prepare for the upcoming presentation
