Report
Memorandum To: Professor Cady and Classmates From: Kelsey Hamilton Date: April 2, 2022 Subject: Improving the Supply Chain Crisis For this assignment, I want to pitch my own idea for this research topic. This topic is a serious issue that has affected most of us in one way or another. Issue The issue that will be presented is the current supply chain crisis affecting our state, along with the rest of the United States. Many of us are currently waiting months to receive parts to fix our items. There are also massive food shortages in our local grocery stores. The supply chain crisis is a real problem affecting most of our daily lives. The CoVid-19 pandemic marked the beginning of shortages worldwide. With fewer workers in manufacturing/warehouses and truck drivers, it all affects the big picture as shipping containers have sat at ports for months waiting to be unloaded. Another issue is that besides waiting weeks or months for products, people are having to pay more for products due to high shipping costs and low supply. Implementation Locally within Washington state, I think some things can be improved. The purpose is to encourage the state representatives to realize the supply chain crisis and figure out a way to incentivize local businesses. Another idea is to advertise the local trucking schools in our state and it could offer an employment opportunity to high school students just graduating and are unsure of their career path. It may also appeal to someone in their 30s or 40s who may have been laid off during the pandemic. If a solution is approved, the next step would be to determine how many workers and drivers are needed to make a successful plan in improving the supply chain. Objectives Some of the objectives I hope this project brings about include; increased employment for local citizens, and an increased amount of truck drivers able to transport goods to stores all over Washington state. As the supply chain is repaired, the shipping costs and cost of goods will decrease as a result. Thank you for taking the time to read this memo. Memorandum To: Professor Cady and Classmates From: Kelsey Hamilton Date: February 13, 2022 Subject: Improving the Supply Chain Crisis Issue The issue that will be presented is the current supply chain crisis affecting our state, along with the rest of the United States. Many of us are currently waiting months to receive parts to fix our items. For example, I have been waiting 3 months for one part to arrive to get my clothes washer fixed. As a result, I have been going to the laundromat every week. The supply chain crisis is a real problem affecting most of our daily lives. The CoVid-19 pandemic created shortages all over the world. With fewer workers and truck drivers, it all affects the big picture as shipping containers have sat at ports waiting to be unloaded. Another issue is that besides waiting weeks or months for products, people are having to pay more for products due to high shipping costs and low supply. Implementation Locally within Washington state, I think some things can be improved. I suggest investing in more locally owned businesses, both in Washington state and across the United States. If more items were manufactured here in the U.S., there would be more jobs for Americans but also fewer shipping delays and a stronger supply chain. My pitch will be addressed to the state governor and local representatives for my area. The purpose is to encourage the state representatives to realize the supply chain crisis and figure out a way to incentivize local businesses. If a solution is approved, the next step would be to determine how many workers and drivers are needed to make a successful plan in improving the supply chain.
