Research Summary External The purpose of this research summary is to analyze the factors that affect the BCSF. The main research question is: What are the factors that affect the BCSF and how do they influence the fund's operations, challenges, opportunities, and impact? External Analysis The external environment and stakeholders of the fund are influenced by the external factors that impact BCSF. The PESTLE structure, which refers to Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental factors is used to analyze these factors. However, only the economic, social, and health factors are included in this research summary as our team believes that they are particularly essential and relevant to the BCSF. Economic Factors Transportation, unemployment, and inflation are some of the major economic factors which have an impact on the BCSF. These elements have different impacts on the fund's operations, opportunities and challenges. 1) The income, spending, and savings of people and businesses were highly impacted by the recession and contraction of the Canadian economy, and it can be seen even today. This has an impact on the BCSF's operations as well because the organization depends mainly on partnerships, events, and donations to raise money and improve its reputation. Reduced GDP indicates reduced spending power and less desire to make donations to charities and take part in fundraising events. As a result, BCSF faces a challenge in maintaining and growing its revenue as well as covering its operational costs and expenses. 2) Moreover, low-income individuals with breast cancer are experiencing higher living costs and treatment expenses because of inflation. The economic stress and burden experienced by these patients has increased due to the rising costs for groceries, rent, transportation, medication and other expenses. For these individuals, BCSF helps in covering their living and treatment expenses by helping them with financial and meal support programs. 3) Unemployment: Rising unemployment has been linked with increased debt and uncertainty as it results in lower income, fewer social safety nets and higher expenses. As a result, it became more difficult for BCSF to support the growing demand. This had an impact on BCSF's operations because the fund financially supports low-income breast cancer patients who are having difficulty paying for their care and living expenses. 4) The accessibility and affordability of the Breast Cancer Support Fund's (BCSF) aid and services are also impacted by transportation, making it an external factor that we have considered. The cost of transportation is quite high for these patients, particularly if they stay in rural or isolated areas or must travel long distance to reach pharmacies, grocery stores, medical facilities or other services. To lower their transportation limitations, BCSF offers financial support.
Social Factors Childcare: It makes it more difficult for low-income breast cancer patients to keep up with their treatment and take care of their kids at the same time. Finding and paying for high-quality childcare is difficult for these patients, particularly when they are single parents and have support from their families. They also had to worry about how their illness would affect the emotional growth and well- being of their kids. Health Factors: As per the Canadian Cancer Statistics, Breast Cancer comes second in terms of cancer-related deaths between Canadian women. It is also the most common form of cancer. About 28,600 women in Canada were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and 5,500 of those cases resulted in death. As more women are affected by breast cancer and desired aid; there is an increasing need for the BCSF's support. The need and urgency for BCSF as well as the size and potential of the fund's market, are mainly influenced by the risk factors, indications, diagnosis, therapy and recovery from breast cancer.
