The assessments that I have chosen are very strong in terms of addressing the standards; but there are a few things that can be changed in these assessments to make them more suitable for our diverse learners. One thing that I would modify for my English language learners is I would have the directions translated in their home language and since they are younger and currently learning how to read I will have the directions recorded for them to play in their home language. I would also give all my exceptional learners that needed it extra time based on their IEP. For my gifted students I would add some extension questions to the assessments so that they would have something to challenge their thinking. An example of what I would use as extension would be having them explain their thinking in 2 complete sentences in their own words. Because although this is a math assessment they still need to be able to communicate their thinking through writing. Another extension would be instead of showing their work using one strategy they would have to do two strategies. The summative and formative assessment are both being completed through SeeSaw which is our main platform for turning in assignments due to the pandemic. The good thing about SeeSaw is that they have several tools for students to use to turn in their assignment which includes a recording feature; so for the students that have in their IEP that they can do assessments orally they could use the recording feature to submit certain portions of the assessment. One way I would modify the summative assessment is to give the students with IEPs a certain number to complete, so for example they may only have to complete the odd numbers which is normally the most difficult questions, so they would still be challenged they just wouldn’t have to complete as many problems. All in all the assessments would benefit from some minor accommodations and modifications to tailor it for every learner. Because we all know that every learner does not learn the same. The same goes for assessments every learner does not test the same. So as educators we have to make the proper adjustments so that we can accurately assess every child.
