This is where a true “greenhouse” effect fundamentally differs from what happens in our atmosphere . 2. Refer to figure 1-6 on page 7. How much closer to the sun is the earth in the northern hemispheres winter than it is in the summer? + The sunis 91.1 million miles away in northern hemisphere winter , and 94.8 million miles away in northern hemisphere summer.
