SPH3U Electricity Lab Name: Ellen Mak Date; Thursday, May 13, 2021 This is a virtual lab using PHET simulations. To access the site, search for PHET Simulations in Google and look for Circuit Construction Kit: DC - Virtual Lab under the topic Electricity and Magnetism In this lab you will investigate the relationship between Voltage (P.D) and the current. You will also investigate the series and parallel connection of resistors. Principle/Theory : According to ohm’s law V = IR Therefore V I and R = V ÷ I Procedure Construct the following circuit using the components available. Make sure you connect the voltmeter in parallel and the ammeter in series . Record the voltmeter and ammeter reading. Add more cells in the circuit in series one after another and then record the voltmeter and ammeter readings Plot a graph between V and I values and then find the value of resistance by finding the slope of the graph. Resistance = 10 omhs T = 10 C = 6 A = 10 Expt. # V(v) I (A) R= V/I 1 9.00V 0.90A 10 omhs 2 18.00V 1.80A 10 omhs 3 27.00V 2.70A 10 omhs 4 36.00V 3.60 A 10 omhs
Part 2: Here you will make a similar circuit. Keeping the same voltage, you will increase the number of resistances in series. Record the values V and I. Plot a graph between I and R values . Write a conclusion based on your graph Conclusion: In conclusion, when we keep the voltage the same while increasing the resistance in a serials circuit, then the current (A) will decrease while the resistance (ohms) increases. Expt. # V(v) I (A) R= V/I 1 9.00V 0.90A 10 omhs 2 9.00V 0.60A 15 omhs 3 9.00V 0.45A 20 omhs 4 9.00V 0.36A 25 omhs
