Lab 1: Semiconductors and Diode Theory Grantham University Introduction: A DC circuit is to be constructed in the NI Multisim Software. Current and voltage drops across R1 and R2 will be measured using the Agilent multimeter. Calculations will be performed for current, and voltage drop across R1 and R2. The actual readings and calculations will be compared and place into table.
Equipment/Components: A circuit will be constructed in the NI Multisim Software. The circuit will consist of a 12VDC power source, 2.2KΩ resistor ±10%, 1.8KΩ resistor ±10%, 1N4001 diode, and Agilent Multimeter. Procedure: The first step of the lab is to construct the circuit using NI Multisim. Once the circuit is constructed several calculations will be performed. The calculations will require the use of several equations to obtain the current and the voltage droppage between resistors. When the calculations are complete actual readings will be acquired using the Agilent multimeter. The actual readings and calculations will be placed into a table for result comparison. Calculations: Part A Current: I = V R 1 + R 2 I = 11.4 2.2 K + 1.8 K I = 2.85 mA Voltage Drop: V R 1 = I R 1 V R 1 = 2.85 ( 2.2 K ) V R 1 = 6.27 V V R 2 = I R 2 V R 2 = 2.85 ( 1.8 K ) V R 1 = 5.13 V Part B I = V R 1 + R 2
I = 0 2.2 K + 1.8 K I = 0 mA Voltage Drop: V R 1 = I R 1 V R 1 = 0 ( 2.2 K ) V R 1 = 0 V V R 2 = I R 2 V R 2 = 0 ( 1.8 K ) V R 1 = 0 V Circuit design: Part A Part B
