IT-242 Milestone Two Spatial Data for Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station Disaster Management: Per request from Arizona state government two maps will be provided. Both are specific to Maricopa County. Both maps will be focused on critical danger zones. The first will be within 10 miles of the nuclear station. The second will be within 20 miles of the nuclear station, and the third within 30 miles of the nuclear station. For the purpose of the danger zones distance in miles will be relevant spatial data. County data will be relevant spatial data as well. Hydrology The first map is for the purpose of identifying bodies of water and their likelihood to be contaminated. Spatial data regarding Maricopa County and distances are again going to be relevant. The next group of data to be reviewed will be hydrology– streams, bodies of water, rivers. Additional review for possible water treatment plants in the area will be performed. Distances relevant to the station will be included in the spatial data. This data would be organized in relevance to distance from the station as the closer to the station the more contaminated water sources are likely to be. The quality of the data will be based on the source and timing of the data. Data sources such as state and federal government agencies will be preferred. Timeliness of the data will also be taken into consideration with the most recent data being preferred.
Hospitals The second map to be provided will be to identify hospitals with over 200 beds that are outside of the critical danger zones. Again, spatial data regarding Maricopa County and distances from the nuclear station are going to be relevant. In this circumstance preferably finding up-to-date information from the Department of Health would be the most trusted source but other state agencies or possibly the hospitals themselves might provide a tabular format database to import to a geodatabase. This information again will be organized based on a target area outside the critical zones and identifying hospitals with a large enough capacity.
