Body Systems Assignment
Purpose
: The purpose of this assignment is to get the student familiar with the
different systems and their locations throughout the body. This will help you become a
better health care professional since you will be able to better understand, assess, and
treat your patient.
Instructions
: You will be assigned either one system or multiple and will be
using the given supplies to create a drawing with your team of each of the organ systems
through an outlined body and label each of the important parts within the system.
Afterwards, you will talk about what impact this system has on the individual,
what could happen if the individual injures a part of this system, and how you would
treat this injury.
Example
: I was assigned the cardiovascular system. Here is my drawing of the
heart and the arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, and veins. (Explains presentation
to the class.) The cardiovascular system is responsible for circulating oxygen and
removing carbon dioxide, providing cells with nutrients, and more.
If my patient were to cut the femoral artery, we could expect to see bright
squirting blood from the body. To treat I would first place my gloved hand over the
wound while my partner fetches the tourniquet and bandages and prepares for rapid
transport. If my patient has lost vast amounts of blood I would consider if they may be
experiencing hypovolemic shock and begin treating for shock if they present that way.
System Assignments
You will need to label each of these parts for each system you are assigned then
explain what happens through each part. Then, on your drawing of a person, show the
different anatomical planes.
Cardiovascular:
Draw the entire cardiovascular system and label each of the parts. On a section of
the paper draw a cross section of the heart and label the inside of the heart. When
explaining the purpose of the heart please explain all 5 uses. Explain when the heart has
oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, what happens at the capillaries, how the blood
returns to the heart after leaving the capillaries and what facilitates the movement.

Respiratory:
Draw the entire respiratory system and label each of the parts. On a separate
section of the paper, draw a close up cross section of the alveoli and the exchange of
oxygen. Explain the purpose of the respiratory system, what organs belong to the upper
and the lower airways, and what separates them. The difference between inspiration and
expiration, the physical process of inspiration and expiration (how the muscles play a
role in this.) And the S&S of respiratory failure and distress.
