Would you expect O V ̇ 2max to be higher on the treadmill or on the cycle ergometer? Why? Higher on the treadmill because it is more physically demanding. 2. List out three absolute and relative contraindications for exercise testing. What do absolute and relative contraindications actually mean, and why are they important to understand prior to engaging in maximal exercise testing? Absolute: Unstable Angina, Acute myocarditis, and pulmonary infarction Relative: Tachydysrhythmia, Left main coronary stenosis, and Severe arterial hypertension Absolute contraindications represent the presence of disease or signs and symptoms that, if present, would rule out conducting the test at all. Relative contraindications represent conditions or signs and symptoms that may be present but can be deemed as less risky, and the test can still be performed with proper supervision. They are important because it ensures that the participant is capable of doing the test safely.
3. Based on your data during the maximal test, did blood pressure respond as expected? Be sure to identify what a normal response is during exercise and why it should respond that way. Yes, BP responded normally. SBP went up as intensity increased and DBP stayed relatively low. These values are normal because the heart pumps out more blood to the necessary tissues and the heart relaxes relatively the same.
