1. Provide a brief overview of your understanding of your Energy Graph from the Learning Report, including two personal strengths and two personal challenges that relate to your working style.
The energy graph is made up of 5 dynamics. These dynamics include explore, excite,
examine, evaluate, and execute. Each dynamic has an intensity level also. These dynamics and intensity levels demonstrate the amount of energy a person uses in daily situations, throughout the whole process. Personally, my order of energies is explore, excite, examine, execute, and evaluate. There are strengths and challenges with each of these dynamics. My number one dynamic is explore. With the explore dynamic, a few of my strengths are developing new ideas and taking into account other thoughts and feelings. As someone who matches the explore dynamic I display the ability to develop new ideas and
think out of the box. As a nurse I am the first to come up with new ways of doing procedures or trying a new training. I also display strength in taking others thoughts, ideas, and feelings in account. When faced with a situation, I try to think how it may affect the other side, and what it may be like in their situation. However on the other hand, two challenges experienced with the explore dynamic are procrastinating and organization. I would have to agree with this one hundred percent. I am always procrastinating, but I feel that I turn out some of my best work under pressure after procrastinating to the last moment. I am also not a very organized person; I wish I was, but I’m not. I love my little chaos. I thrive in chaos and a little mess. I think this is part of what makes me such a great emergency room nurse.
2. Describe your experience(s) of conversations as they relate to the laws of conversation and the four levels of the conversation meter.
I have found that pretense and sincerity have mostly negative effects. However, accuracy and authenticity have mostly positive and encouraging effects. I find that most arguments and fights start with pretense and sincerity, but most effective conversation and non-violent communication stems from accuracy and authenticity. I find myself using authenticity in the conversation. I often try to actually listen to the person and take in their point of view. I do this by using my strength from explore dynamic of having an open mind and not judging. This allows me
to have a greater appreciation of different views and influences. It also allows me to gain new insight about the situation at hand. When I am disciplining an employee, I may start with pretense and sincerity by getting angry and assuming I know what happened in the situation to lead to this disciplinary action. After realizing my bioreactions kick in before I have clarification of the subject, I try to step back and use accuracy and authenticity to listen to what my employee has to say, and give them a chance to provide an explanation for what happened. I also come to them as a direct involved party to figure out exactly what happened before I make and decisions of what to do as disciplinary action. I try to make my decision based on accuracy and authenticity
rather than pretense and sincerity. 3. Discuss your strategies for being a successful student, including how you will incorporate your strengths and address your challenges.
I plan to use the conversation meter and laws of conversation to continue to be strong in taking in others thoughts, feelings, and ideas in my classroom setting. I hope to use my strength of innovativeness to provide insight and new ideas for others in the class. I plan to do this by providing my own personal experiences and knowledge as a learning tool for the class. I also plan to use the cycle of waste and the cycle of value to really make my communication with instructors and other classmates matter. I plan to use my strength of open mindedness and

good listening skills to hear everyone’s point of view and try to think about their perspective on issues at hand. I will actively listen to my classmates and provide them my full attention.
I plan to use a calendar, to do list, and reminders in my phone to help with my procrastination. I also hope to use a set up a schedule, and to make a conscious effort to clean up around my home which will help with the organization challenge I have. Hopefully setting a schedule will also help with organization.
4. Reflect on your overall experience in the course and how it applies to two of the following: academic activities, professional career, or personal life.
As a charge nurse I try to use my explore dynamic to think about others thoughts and feelings when I am at my job, whether it be coworker, patient, or patient family member. I try to remember everyone has different perspective. I try to think how certain situations may be affecting them. I also use the five dynamics to understand their working style. This allows me to see why they may do something different from the way I do at my job or even in the academic world. There is usually more than one way to do something, and just because someone does it differently from me does not mean the job or task will not be completed correctly. This course has better prepared me for life in the professional and personal world by teaching me the worth of the cycle of waste and cycle of value, the importance of actually fully listening, and having effective communication in everyday conversations.
