SIT223-SIT753 High Distinction Task: Capstone Internship Program
Capstone Internship Program Overview Capstone Internship Program (CIP) is a collaboration between the SIT223 unit and Capstone unit to provide a 4-week internship opportunity for a group of students at capstone companies. This program is only available for those students who target High Distinction grades and are undertaking Capstone Shadowing Program. The Capstone Internship Program is a mere extension and the hands-on form of Capstone Shadowing program. The student needs to do some tasks after observing their Host or mentor. Therefore, the student gets the hands-on experience of the capstone role under close supervision of the mentor. Capstone shadowing focuses on observing and learning about a specific role or profession, while the capstone internship provides hands-on experience in a particular field. Therefore, the capstone internship involves actively participating in work and offers practical experience in a field and the chance to develop skills. Interns are given tasks; they perform them and report back to their mentors. The mentors guide their work and provide feedback at the conclusion of their internship. All roles include administrative tasks, but the mentor will support you throughout your placement to make sure you are getting the most from your internship. You can also talk to your mentor or team if there are particular skills or projects you would like to work on. To achieve a High Distinction (low) , you will need to complete all Pass , all Credit and all Distinction tasks, in addition to completing the High Distinction task which is the Capstone Internship Program (CIP) . Achieving a high distinction (low) The following conditions are guidelines, it is your responsibility to convince your tutor that you deserve this grade. being actively involved in the company from week 7 and doing hands-on activities must contribute to at least one project deliverable the contributions have to be of high quality, leading to successful outcomes for the project you convince us of why you should get the High Distinction.
Achieving a high distinction (high) To achieve a High Distinction (high) , you will need to satisfy all Pass , all Credit , and all Distinction and High Distinction (low) conditions. These conditions are guidelines, it is your responsibility to convince your tutor that you have met or exceeded them and deserve this grade. leading some activities, including initiating, and conducting them effectively through the course of the project. helping resolve issues for students, which may occur throughout the course of the project or assisting other members of the team in delivering on time and improving their outputs, where your expertise can be valuable. going beyond being hands-on, by mentoring and consistently assisting students within the team. all contributions to the project are of a very high standard. Assessment Instructions The internship aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the weekly activities of a Capstone company, while also giving you the opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience that will help you in your future Capstone units and IT career. The submission includes the following two parts. 1. Self-reflection report The goal of this assessment is to help you to deepen your understanding of your Capstone internship experience and to develop a plan for continuing your professional development. By reflecting on your experience and setting goals for yourself, you can leverage the skills and knowledge you gained during your internship to advance your career in the IT industry. Your professional development plan should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), and your timeline should help you to stay on track and adjust your plan as needed. Providing evidence to support your reflections and assessments will help you to better articulate your learning and growth during the internship experience. Your reflection should be between 1500 and 2000 words written in essay format. Your submission must include the following sections: Introduction: Provide an introduction to your internship experience, including the company you worked for, your role, and the project you worked on. Learning objectives: Describe the learning objectives you set for yourself at the beginning of the internship. What did you hope to learn or achieve during the internship?

Skill assessments: Assess your skills based on what you observed and learned during the internship. What are your key strengths, and how did you leverage them during the internship? What skills or areas do you need to improve, and how can you work on them? Provide evidence to support your assessment. Project reflections: Reflect on the projects you worked on during the internship. What did you learn from the project? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? What were your successes, and how did you achieve them? Provide specific examples and evidence to support your reflections. Professional development plan: A professional development plan is meant to allow you to develop a strategy to address the gaps in your skills as identified in the internship program. The strategy must include both short term and longer-term actions to address the gaps as follows. a. Using your self-assessment in Task 2.1D and the capstone role, provide details of all the gaps you can see in your skills. For the identified gaps, draft a plan on how you think you can address the gap and improve your skills and knowledge to be successful in similar positions. b. Your professional development plan needs to be specific, achievable, and realistic. Try to include as many details as you can in your plan and be specific. For example, if the plan is to improve your web development skills, you need to clearly define which technologies you would like to learn or improve on, which units at university are you going to enrol to help you with this, which projects will you try to be involved, and whether there are opportunities for you to be involved to have a real-world experience, e.g., capstone, placements, industry internships etc. Provide specific action items and evidence to support your plan. c. Develop a timeline for implementing your professional development plan. When will you start? What are the milestones and deadlines you need to meet before starting the Capstone project soon? Leadership reflections: This section is only for those students who target High HD. Reflect on the leadership styles you have observed during your internship experience. Provide specific examples and evidence to support your reflections. a. Describe the leadership style of your immediate mentor or other leaders within your company. You should consider their communication style, decision-making process, and how they motivate and inspire their team. b. Analyse the effectiveness of the leadership styles you have observed. Consider how their leadership style impacts the company culture, team engagement, and overall productivity. c. Reflect on your own leadership style and how you can improve your leadership or mentoring skills based on what you have done and learned during your internship. Provide evidence of your mentoring or leadership. Conclusion: Summarize your key insights and takeaways from your Capstone internship program.
Evidence may include: Feedback from your mentor or team or company directors on your performance or skills as screenshots. Examples of tasks or projects you observed or participated in during the internship. Notes or screenshots of conversations you had with your mentor or team. Certificates or other documentation of any training or development you received during the internship experience. 2. Demo video You are required to create a demo video showcasing your internship deliverables or artifacts. When presenting your work to your tutor, be sure to provide clear and concise explanations of your contributions and how they meet the criteria for a High Distinction grade. Your video should be between 5 to 7 minutes in length. The video should be uploaded to a video sharing platform such as YouTube or DeakinAir.
