Dear President Lincoln, In light of the events that took place on April 15th, I have taken into careful consideration, what the best strategy would be for the United States and how to respond in a way that would be in the best interest of our nation as a whole and for you as the President of the United States. As your Chief Advisor, I believe that after the recent events involving the attacks and capture of Fort Sumter by General P.G.T. Beauregard and his soldiers, the nation is now at a critical juncture. The decision that is made at this pivotal moment will determine the trajectory of history for future generations. After days of thorough deliberation and consultation with military experts, diplomatic advisors, and members of Congress, I as well as the members of congress and advisors, firmly support a firm and unwavering response to the aggressiveness exhibited by the Confederate soldiers led by P.G.T Beauregard. We must, without any doubt, decisively protect the principles of the Union and safeguard the integrity of our nation. Although the goal of diplomacy and peaceful resolution is commendable, it is important to recognize that the actions of the Confederacy have shown that it is willing to use force in opposition to federal authority. Engaging in discussions at this point to negotiate any type of peaceful resolve could be interpreted as a display of weakness and encourage additional acts of hostility. It is the general consensus of congress, our Military leaders, Advisors and myself, that this is not the time for seeking a peaceful resolve but a time to show the Confederacy and the citizens of the United States, that we are not a Nation that will tolerate such actions and retaliation is imminent.     Therefore, I propose that we deploy our available resources, assemble military forces, and execute strong counterattacks to put a stop to the uprising and reinstate the authority of the federal government. Through showcasing our determination and dedication to safeguarding the Union, we convey a distinct message to the Confederacy and to other nations that the United States remains unified in protecting freedom and democracy. We will not waver from this position. Furthermore, although engaging in warfare should not be done without careful consideration, it is crucial that we approach it with a well-defined and organized strategy and resolute resolve. Our objective is to minimize casualties and damage to property while efficiently pursuing the battle in order to achieve a rapid and conclusive victory.
Mr. President, we are under a microscope right now. The entire nation is watching to see how you, Mr. Lincoln, President of the United States is going to address these malicious attacks and what measures will be taken to protect our land and our freedom. Our actions in this crucial moment will be forever marked in history. May we remain steadfast in our resolve led by the principles of justice, solidarity, and freedom, as we face the forthcoming challenges that lie ahead. Sincerely, Robert W. Kinyon Jr. Chief Advisor to President Abraham Lincoln
