Why did the United States decide to go to war in Vietnam and was it justified? Support your conclusion using factual evidence from your reading.
The decision for the United States to go to war in Vietnam was influenced by many complex factors, specifically the spread of communism was a concern. Looking into these factors will give us a better understanding of how this decision was made and
what was most influential. One of the reasons is to prevent the spread of communism, particularly in Southeast Asia. The United States feared that if Vietnam was entirely taken over by communism, many other countries would follow its lead. This was a major
concern because this idea that many neighboring countries would become communist as well if Vietnam fell was exactly what they were desperately working against. The United States also had committed to supporting South Vietnam against communism and
felt obligated to be an ally to them. The United States joining the war in Vietnam was Justified. Going off of the reasons stated previously, the United States had an obligation
to do everything possible to prevent the spread of communism and keep its commitments to its allies. The text specifically talks about preventing the spread of communist countries multiple times. Not knowing the devastation that would occur, I believe the United States made the best decision possible provided the information that there was available.
