HIS 100 Module One Activity Template: Project Topic Exploration You must pick a topic from the Research Topics Lists in the Library Research Guide. While it is a good idea to choose your topic early, you may change it until the next module. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Support your responses with specific details and examples. Identify the topic you chose to explore:  I’ve decided to select the categories of Political Revolutions and I selected the research topic of Haitian Independence. Explain what you already know about the chosen topic based on your personal history or experiences.  I am aware that Haiti is the first country to gain their independence as slaves.  Haiti battles with the French and British colonizers  The Haitians began to go into war in the year of 1791. Describe the beliefs, assumptions, and values you have related to the topic you chose.  I believe the Haitians rightfully earned their independence.  I assume the British and French still have animosity against the Haitian rightful win.  I belief the war that began was unnecessary due to the Haitians already being on the land and had got attacked for what was already theirs.  I believe the Haitians have a lot of value within themselves for standing their ground and battling rather than just giving in. Explain why this topic is relevant to current events or to modern society.  I believe this topic is relevant to current events that are taking place due to the numerous wars that have begun the recent years. For example, Russia vs Ukraine, as well as the most recent war of Israel vs Hamas. I feel people are having to battle for land and territory that is already theirs due to others wanting to overthrow the current situations the countries have. I believe with the British independence taking place so long-ago in the year of 1791 it shows the endless possibilities that we can currently overcome in today’s time. 1
