1 Base your answer to the following question on the information presented in this lesson (and in the American Yawp). Do not use outside sources. Be sure Module 3 Assignment Question 1: At what point in the chain of events between 1760 and 1776 did the American War for Independence become inevitable? In the same connection, what was the last possible point at which a compromise between the British government and the colonies might have avoided war? Several points in the chain of events between 1760 and 1776 caused the Independence of America war to be inevitable. American political life was the beginning of the primary turmoil between the British. Then the Stamp Act was the following to trigger the Americans to shift towards independence. Due to the substantial amount of debt by 1770, triggering tons of hostility between the colonies. Prime Minister George Grenville sought to tax Americans and decrease their political and economic powers. In 1764 the Currency Act prohibited the New England colonies from consuming government bills of the attribute as lawful tender. There were a few possible points at which a compromise between the British government and the colonies might have avoided war. The Loyalist from the First Continental Congress were delegates that had divided sympathies. The Loyalist firmly guarded American Rights against colonial activists but dreaded the penalties of active defiance. When the King failed to take advantage of this division from the Continental Congress and among the American people show that they were willing to work it out. When the King declined to agree to the “Olive Branch”
2 request of Tories and decided to issue a decree for destroying revolt and treason in August some thought that would be a start to reconciliate. Question 2: In what ways should the American Revolution be considered a civil war among Americans as well as a war for independence? Why are the Loyalists so often forgotten in American history? There are many reasons why the American Revolution should be considered a civil war among Americans as well as a war for independence. There were two groups that were involved in the civil war Patriots and Loyalist. The Patriots believed the American Revolution was a minority movement. The Loyalist were conservative Americans that worried a Democratic Republic would produce too much equality. The Loyalist opposed Independence while the Patriots believed independence comes from the people. The Patriots were also sons and daughters of the Liberty while the Loyalist Radical Whigs feared the threat of Liberty upon arbitrary power of monarch, ministers, and parliament. The Loyalists is often forgotten in American history because they supported the crown and Britain lost the war. They also opposed Independence. The Loyalists lost most of their property. The Loyalist was also forced to leave the area they were fighting for. Most of all the Loyalist was forgotten in American history because they lost.
