One of the conflicts between Natives and white settlers in the early 19th century can be attributed to how the confiscation of Native land negatively affected the practice of their religion. Massasoit's decision to approach the Pilgrims about an alliance was contingent on the Wampanoag people had been plagued with disease which made them vulnerable to the Narragansett people who had constantly threatened them. Another contingency was to develop an alliance with the Pilgrims against the Narragansett people which they committed to on March 22, 1621.

One short-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims was an alliance with the Narragansett was formed to defeat the English. One long-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims was how the alliance began to lessen as Englishmen arrived in New England making the English more powerful than the Wampanoag people. Massasoit wanted the Wampanoag to remain neutral in the Pequot War, this created the defeat and the Natives were held captive or killed. Describe one instance of a misconception or a wrong idea you had about your topic that has been corrected after researching and writing about it. The understanding of my historical event has changed after research is the with the Boston busing crisis, I had originally believed that the process of desegregation had begun immediately following the case of Brown vs. Board of Education. After research I had discovered that the Boston School Committee had prolonged desegregation for for twenty years before busing and desegregation was enforced. Module 7 Short Responses – Question 7 Name four historical lenses through which you could analyze the events of the Cherokee Removal. Specify one aspect of this event for each lens that you cite. The four lenses that could be applied when analyzing the Cherokee Removal would be; political, legal, social and economical. The political lens can be used to research how and why did the federal government not enforce President Jackson and the state of Georgia to comply with the Supreme Court's ruling. The legal lens could be used to research how the legal process of ethnic cleansing was recognized in the 1990's. The social lens can be used to research how the Cherokee assimilated to European-American culture and did they adapt easily or was it a challenge and were they still mistreated by the European-Americans. Finally, economical lens can be used to research the Treaty of New Echota. This lens could reveal the economical ability of five million dollars and $500,000 in educational funds to be sufficient for Cherokee to survive when settled in the west.
