DAD-220 Module 5 Major Activity Patrick Nieland Sarah Stitham In this module we were asked to execute and examine results from reports regarding a company’s sales of products by region, as well as what products were returned the most by region. Following the summary, are the screenshots of the SQL commands used. In the first inquiry, we compiled information about a company’s sales from each state in the United States to determine which state had the biggest customer base. We selected all of the customers within each state that purchased products and combined it with the number of the products they bought. We grouped the results by state and narrowed it down to the top ten states which were listed in descending order. Based on the output, it was determined that Massachusetts had the highest customer base with a total of 982. In addition, we wanted to determine the top three best selling products across the United States. To do this, the product sales number was combined with the item description and sku number for each product the company sells. The results were grouped by the product sku and sorted by product description. The most popular product sold was the Basic Switch 10/100/1000 BaseT 48 Port with a total of 8,385 followed by the Enterprise Switch 40GigE SFP+ 48 Port with a total of 6,186 and the Enterprise Switch 10GigE SFP+ 48 Port with a total of 4,329. A similar survey was conducted to determine the top three products sold within the southeastern United States of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. We took the product sales number, product item description and sku number, and combined that with the number of customer orders. It was then
narrowed down to those states previously listed. The conclusion was that the Basic Switch 10/100/1000 BaseT 48 Port was sold the most with a total of 347, followed by the Enterprise Switch 40GigE SFP+ 48 Port with a total of 223 and finally the Basic Switch 10/100/1000 BaseT 8 Port with a total of 180. The second set of data gathered, was the top three products returned in the United States along with the top three products returned just in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. To do this, we get a count of returns based on product sku number and description from customer orders and combine that with the return merchandise authorizations for those orders. From that we narrow the field down to those that have a complete status. The results are limited to the top three most returned products and presented in descending order. We concluded that the most returned item was the Basic Switch 10/100/1000 BaseT 48 Port with a total of 7,405, followed by the Enterprise Switch 40GigE SFP+ 48 Port with a total of 5, 470 and finally the Enterprise Switch 10GigE SFP+ 48 Port with a total of 3,847. The final set of data we analyzed was the top three most returned items from the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. The same inquiry was run, but we narrowed the field down to only include the states listed above as well as those with a status of complete. The top product returned was the Basic Switch 10/100/1000 BaseT 48 Port with a total of 628, followed by the Enterprise Switch 40GigE SFP+ 48 Port with a total of 473, and finally the Enterprise Switch 10GigE SFP+ 24 Port with a total of 344.
