Thomas Garcia S435 Homework– A2 The questions I would like to answer in the Aviation Crash database are: Is there a specific aircraft manufacturer that has been more prone to making aircrafts that eventually crash? Is the overall trend in aviation crashes increasing or decreasing as time goes on? My first step in the data preprocessing of the aviation crash database was consolidating the data. To do this I exported all of the data tables from the 1920 to 2023 crashes into an excel file worksheet. This was very time consuming and for some reason all of the tables transferred over into excel as their own separate queries so I had to manually convert each query back to range in order to integrate. Next came the data cleaning which included removing the unnecessary aircraft type number and registration. I did this by creating a new column named aircraft manufacturer and used excels built in flash fill function to auto fill in the aircraft manufacturer type which excluded the unnecessary information. I then deleted the original “Aircraft type / Registration” column and replaced it with the newly created “Aircraft Manufacturer”. A few of the airplane crashes did not display the type of the aircraft manufacturer that crashed so I removed these from the table as they are obsolete. I also reformatted the dates of all the crashes to ensure they are all matching.
