C797 Phase 2b
I chose to create a bar graph showing the incidence of specific HAI (CLABSI and CAUTI) prior to
the implementation of the NSIQI Toolkit and after use. The Toolkit included use of data visualization and
the use of K-cards. Using this method allowed the hospital to visually see where the processes were
failing in the day to day operations. The data shows that the rate of CLABSI and CAUTI decreased with
the nurse sensitive intervention outcomes by 19% each over a period known as post-implementation
time (roughly nine months). The article and data show that the use of this intervention can lower HAI
infections.
The bar graph was used to show multiple sets of data that could compare a before and after
implementation rates. The two colors used differentiate between the two types of HAI studied – CLABSI
and CAUTI.
