2nd Grade Illinois Mathematics
Unit Topic: Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction Within 100.
Unit Title: Mastering 2-Digit Math: Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction
National or State Academic Content Standards:
2.NBT.A.5
Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value,
properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Learning Goal:
By the end of the unit students will have developed a strong understanding of
place value, addition, and subtraction within the range of two-digit numbers (0-100). Students
will be able to confidently apply their knowledge of place value concepts to correctly add and
subtract two-digit numbers, both with and without re-grouping.
Measurable Objectives:
At the end of the unit, students will be able to accurately solve
addition and subtraction problems involving two-digit numbers within the range of 0-100 by
recognizing that tens are added to tens and ones to ones with 80% accuracy.
The objective is aligned with the learning goal because it quantifies the expectations that I had
set in the learning goal. It specifies the level of accuracy and the specific skills that students
should have mastered by the end of the unit. Essentially, the measurable goal serves as a clear
and specific way to evaluate whether the broader learning goad has been achieved. This will be
measured by assessments, classroom activities, and independent practice. The differentiation
will come by the means of small groups for the students who need more guidance, or since I
am in the inclusion room, some assignments will be modified based on the individual student's
IEP or 504.
